I won't go into all the details here but here's a quick recap. I had been in early labour since Thursday night (and was well and truly ready to meet him by that point!) but my contractions never got closer than around 6 minutes apart. We even went to Geoff's soccer game on Saturday with me having contractions every 7 minutes on the sidelines!
Then suddenly on Sunday afternoon they were 3-4 minutes apart. We called Geoff's parents to look after the boys and headed in to the hospital. We got there at the same time as Lauren - a friend from highschool who is a student doula and was going to 'practice' her studies at my birth. I was very grateful to have her support and I got more and more grateful to have her there as time went on! I was so worried that we would get to the hospital and be told to turn around and go home but when the midwife checked me I was already at 6cm and we weren't going anywhere.
Things got faster and faster from there and within 2 hours we were close to meeting our baby. And to sum up - lets just say that Geoff's eardrums and hands took a day or two to recover... and before I knew it, I was holding my baby boy. He was beautiful and perfect and he cried once and then went to sleep. After a little rest he opened his eyes and lifted his head and I was completely amazed and overwhelmed and just totally melted into an emotional heap.
By this point it was past the boys bedtime so we arranged to see them in the morning and we settled in to our room for the night to get some rest and get to know each other. The birth had been so fast and so amazing that I was just full of adrenaline and spent most of the night just watching my little man as he slept, getting to know his tiny long fingers, his beautiful dark hair, his little button nose and tiny mouth and even his funny little pinky toes that hook outwards just like Finn's.
The next morning Geoff's parents brought the boys in to meet their little brother. It was very sweet - Finn came running in to give me a big hug then he suddenly noticed the little bundle in the cot next to me and stood up on the bed saying "Finn look!" and grabbed onto the side of the cot and pulled it closer so he could lean in and get a good peek. They were both so excited and kinda shy too - it was very cute. Levi patted and pinched his cheeks and then started stroking his hair so gently, then Finn kept trying to knock Levi's hand out of the way so he could stroke Jett's hair instead and they both just loved him!
We have settled back in at home now and Jett is doing really well. The boys love him and love to help (or "help") look after him. I will post some more photos later but here is his announcement card.
