Levi's 6th birthday part 2 - the party

(BTW - Since this post is a little long & very full of photos, some of the pics are kinda small - you can click on any & open them in a new tab to see them bigger)... Well after an insane two days of completely gutting & re-doing Levi's bedroom in secret, he came home from his sleepover on Sunday - party day! We brought him home Sunday morning and asked him to go straight into the playroom to open some presents. (Which were wrapped in comic book paper - it looked awesome!)

Then we ever so casually asked him to put something away in his room - after Geoff had snuck in there to be ready with the video camera... His reaction was priceless - he was totally taken by surprise and took quite a while to notice every new detail! He ran in not expecting anything out of the ordinary and just stopped dead and said "wha..... what??? a new desk! and new chair! and a new bed!" etc etc etc..... it was just hilarious. He kept running from thing to thing to check out all the new things and was even excited about the new colour of his cupboard door. Geoff had to point out the wall art as it is quite above his eye level and he hadn't even noticed - lol... but he was quite impressed! He declared his favourite things in the room to be his desk, and the Captain America shield.

Then it was back to mad party food preparation (which had been sadly neglected due to time spent on the room makeover) and trying to get the boys to have a nap before the party.... did not work.... but worth a try. We packed up all our supplies and headed over to Geoff's parents place who had kindly agreed to let us hold the party there which saved us from having to make our place look presentable after the construction site slash party preparation zone it had become.

I had this stack of super hero posters which I had decided against using in Levi's room (opting for the 4 larger ones instead) so I decided to use them as the backdrop for the party table and the result was quite striking and became quite the talking point as guests tried to see if they could name all the characters from the prints.

I had also made a bunting from comic book pages (well copies of comic book pages as I couldn't bring myself to cut up originals and I thought certain people would shoot me for trying!) This will hang in Levi' room now as well and adds a bit more colour & creativity to the room... and it certainly looked great at the party!

My weeks of early preparation had paid off with a cape sewn for each child attending the party (and a few adults with varying degrees of enthusiasm too!) This was the best detail of the party I think and Levi very excitedly dragged each new arrival over to the fence where I had a whole row of colourful capes hanging with each guests name attached so that they could find their cape & join the party. I had tried to choose colours for each child that would be special for them and it seemed to work really well.

The kids certainly seemed to love them & it made just everyday playing just a bit more exciting & helped everyone get into the superhero mood... (I even made a tiny cape for little Kyla which was super cute!) Even my Dad sportingly joined in when Levi insisted he needed a cape too!

Then of course, there was cake...

and presents...

and after it all, there were puppies to cuddle when we wanted to relax and breathe a sigh of relief...

Wow what a day! Geoff and I were absolutely wiped after this whole weekend but it was well worth it to see just how excited Levi was with each detail that had come together - he had a truly awesome birthday and it made it all very worthwhile. Happy 6th birthday my little man!
